Church Membership ("Partnering")

What does it mean to "join" FBCD?

This is one question we hear often and one that we never mind answering. Often churches talk about Christians becoming a member of a local church. Historically, Baptists called it "receiving the right hand of fellowship," but at FBCD we call it "partnering".

What is "partnering"?

It's more than just joining a country club; it's expressing a commitment to God and other believers. The apostle Paul expresses his joy in the Philippians "because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now" (1:5 ESV). Like Paul, we take great joy when those who have committed to Christ want to commit to our church. One Christian author defined partnering this way: "It means standing together united in the gospel, determined to live as citizens of heaven in the midst of our corrupt generation, longing and striving to see the gospel be defended and proclaimed."

At FBCD, we understand how vital the local church is in the life of a Christian. In the context of our local church we seek to carry out the "one another" commands of Scripture (John 13:34; Romans 15:7; 2 Corinthians 13:11; Hebrews 10:24-25; James 5:16). It is a great privilege and responsibility to be a partner at FBCD.

What does a "partner" do?

A partner (disciple) faithfully attends the corporate gathering of the church, is involved in a small group gathering and serves in a ministry. They also pray for the body of Christ, share the gospel with non-Christians, and contribute financially through tithes and offerings.

How do you "partner" with us?

The best way to partner with us is to attend our Starting Point class. In this class, you will learn more about us, our beliefs, our ministries and our mission.
